Reviewed in the United States on 16 September 2018Video Games (Accessories and Games) 15 Days Returnable I was tempted to try it in a fountain pen but I'm afraid of ruining my fountain pen so I can't say if that claim was true or not. The line just doesn't stay as crisp as I want for that. If you wanted to do line work after you use watercolor or use makers this would be ok. Otherwise I would say it's a good practice ink. And I'll probably keep it just for that purpose and have it dedicated to that. If I did allot of washes this would be great for that. It just doesn't do what I need it to for everyday use. No noticeable lightening with earasing on either paper.Īll in all this is an ok ink. It took alcohol makers better but still a bit of smearing. With canson XL paper it wasn't as black, it feathered more but not allot and it bled through to the other side of paper. It smears pretty bad with alcohol makers and takes a bit to clean off the maker. Tiny bit of feathering and has a granulated effect with wet on wet washes. On cheap watercolor paper it is very black and water resistant. I'm going to keep the bottle after the ink is gone and use it with another brand of India ink. Leaving the bottle open for a week didn't help much, I was hoping that it would thicken the ink enough to use with steel nibs but it just didn't do it.Īside from that I really like the bottle shape, it helps discourage accidental spills and it's small enough to pack and take around, it also has an eye dropper in the cap. It is very wet and while it is very black, and very permanent, even while using a crow quill nib it's difficult to get a finer line than even using an extra fine fountain pen nib. I was excited to try this ink but it did not meet expectations. I would not recommend it, except to fill in large areas of black, or where messy line work is acceptable (sketches or loose drawings), never high detail, thin lines or fine hatching. What I am not perfectly happy with is that this ink is too thin and watery for tight, controlled lines. Also because I like diluted ink washes, and so I can us this ink up, that way. I added back one star for the fact that the Higgins ink works well in that pen. And whereas I prefer Speedball Speedball 2-Ounce India Ink, Super Black for it's thickness and ability to hold fine lines, it doesn't flow in my Ackerman fountain pen. If you happen to own an Ackerman fountain pen (), this Higgins ink works very well in those pens.
